Functional Capacity Assessment

A functional capacity skills assessment determines an individual’s ability to independently initiate, engage and complete daily living activities.  Functional assessments are often requested or required for accessing NDIS funding and provide useful information in determining goals and support that may be needed.

Autism Diagnostic Assessment (ADOS-2)

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a standardised, semi structured clinical instrument designed to assess communication, social interaction skills and repetitive behaviours in individuals suspected of having autism or other pervasive developmental disorders.

Marschak Interaction Method (MIM) / Play Assessment

The Marschak Interaction Method (MIM) is a structured technique for observing the interaction or relationship between a caregiver and a child. This is not a parenting assessment, but a valuable tool for assisting parents to reflect and understand their relationship. The MIM provides a foundation for Theraplay or other modalities of therapy intervention.

Developmental & Motor Skill Assessment

Occupational therapists often assess fine motor (i.e. use of hands – such as handwriting ability, cutlery use, dressing skills), gross motor (i.e. how our body moves), and visual motor (i.e. coordination of what we see with how we move) skills.   Developmental motor skill assessments can be helpful in determining the potential underlying reasons why difficulties may be experienced in doing the things that an individual needs to do in their daily lives.

Feeding Assessment

For individuals with difficulties at mealtimes, a feeding assessment can assist in determining why they may not eat or has limited food range.   A feeding assessment involves investigation of developmental history, current feeding behaviours or diet, environment considerations, sensory processing skills, and oral motor abilities.

Sensory Assessment

Utilising standardised interview style questionnaires and direct observations, sensory assessments help to determine an individual’s sensory preferences and provide valuable information about how to best support learning and engagement.

Assistive Technology (AT)

Assessment prescriptions and NDIS AT applications for items that allow individuals to perform tasks they would otherwise be unable to do or increases the ease in with which tasks can be performed.

Individual Therapy Sessions

Therapy at Octavia Therapies is designed to be meaningful, highly engaging, and supportive. Your first session is entirely about connection - getting to know you, your child, the things your family loves to do, and the goals you want to focus on.

Subsequent sessions balance purposeful therapy activities with open conversation. We recognize that progress is rarely a straight line; we meet clients exactly where they are on the day, creating a safe, comfortable environment to build skills at a pace that feels right for them

Parent & Caregiver Coaching Sessions

Octavia Therapies creatively supports clients to achieve their goals by building on their strengths and life experience through parent or caregiver sessions.  Anyone who is involved with the client can come along to the sessions (multiple parents, support workers, educators, family members) so that strategies are created in consideration of everyone’s own expertise, experiences and confidence.

Some areas that often are addressed using the coaching model of practice include self-care skills, toileting independence, sleep concerns, mealtime or feeding difficulties, sensory or emotion regulation.
